This year has begun well in the faith and mission space. On Tuesday 30 January, our 2024 Student Leadership Team gathered together to visualise the year ahead. The Leadership Day was run by the Catholic Leadership Organisation, Yellow Arrow and students were given the opportunity to work as a large group and as smaller leadership teams to gain valuable skills and insights into being a student leader at a Catholic School.聽

Feedback on the day was positive. We saw a huge increase in camaraderie amongst our Student Leaders which continued throughout the day and into the start of the school year.

One of our Student Leaders said: 鈥淚 really enjoyed the interactive activities throughout the day as I got to know more of the other Senior leaders as well as the Middle School leaders and what their goals and aspirations for the year are.鈥�

We look forward to the impact and connection that our Student Leaders will bring in 2024.

It is extremely rewarding as staff members to have students who voice their ideas and take part in serving one another. Our newest College initiative – which is an opportunity to name the new Senior Building was received with much enthusiasm from our students. Our student leaders had a meeting to get ‘the ball rolling’ on this initiative and they narrowed down a list of eight candidates to three, which have now been given to the wider student body and staff to vote for. These individuals are influential Catholic figures of their time, who let their light shine by making a positive impact in the world around them. We hope to share the name of the winning candidate to the College Community on Friday 8 March 2024. The three individuals who were shortlisted are Dr Sr Mary Glowrey, Catherine Brosnaham Coffey and Mother Mary Berchams.

Our Social Justice team has also been very busy coming up with ideas for numerous fundraisers so that we can assist and support the wider community in any possible.

We are so excited for our 2024 initiatives which will encourage students to reflect on the College values of service every day.

At the upcoming Athletics Day, our Year 12s will have a Superhero Dress Up Competition to raise funds for Caritas Project Compassion. Caritas is the Catholic Church鈥檚 international aid and development agency which work hand-in-hand with local communities and churches to bring aid and relief to people whose lives have been devastated by natural disasters or conflicts. Project Compassion, in particular, raises much-needed funds to help alleviate poverty, promote justice, and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world.

Our Liturgy Team have been very busy working on new ways in which the community can engage with the Liturgies and the Masses we host. So far, the team has organised a Liturgy over our public address system for the Feast Day of Josephine Bakhita. Staff and students engaged positively in the Liturgy and we look forward to to developing similar events to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, Palm Sunday Reflection and the Stations of the Cross.

Tomorrow staff and students will have a short excursion to Tarneit Creek. As part of the Clean Up Australia Day Campaign, we will collect any rubbish or debris which has been deposited near the Creek. This initiative will allow the students the opportunity to work towards one of our common goals of caring for our environment.
